A short, free, online course required for every Dream Simple borrower. Designed and administered by Dream Home Fund.
The Dream Home Fund Financial Education Course is now available to walk through. It will be a required step for every Dream Simple borrower at launch, supplementing (not replacing) the HUD-approved homebuyer education course required by our program. Final launch is expected concurrent with our pending HUD-Approved Nonprofit Roster approval.
You can take the course now to preview the content and earn a certificate. Module copy and videos are still being refined; the framework, quizzes, and certificate flow are working end-to-end.
HUD-approved homebuyer education does an excellent job preparing buyers for the general homeownership journey. We require it, and it is not going away.
Our course adds a Dream Home Fund-specific layer: how our silent second mortgage works, what triggers repayment, how to communicate with us if something changes in your financial life, and how stewardship plays into long-term homeownership. The goal is that every Dream Home Fund borrower has the same shared understanding of the program before they sign at closing, no matter which lender brought them to us.
How the silent second works, why there are no monthly payments, how simple interest accrues, what events trigger repayment, and how to request a payoff statement.
Mortgage payment, taxes, insurance, HOA, maintenance reserves, and the hidden costs that catch new homeowners off guard.
The faith-rooted view of homeownership as a place to serve family and community, with practical principles for caring for your home and your finances.
What to do if you cannot make a first-mortgage payment, how Dream Home Fund responds to a Notice of Default on the first mortgage, and who to call if life circumstances change.
What happens to your silent second if you marry, divorce, transfer title, or pass away. Why having a simple plan matters and where to start.
When Dream Home Fund will subordinate to a new first mortgage, what counts as a cash-out refinance (and why we treat it differently), and how to request a Subordination Decision.
The Dream Home Fund Financial Education Course does not replace the HUD-approved homebuyer education course required by our program. Both must be completed prior to closing. The HUD-approved course covers general homebuyer readiness; the Dream Home Fund course covers program-specific operational topics. Borrowers may take them in either order.
HUD-approved courses are offered by a wide range of accredited providers nationwide; you can find a HUD-approved counseling agency through your lender or the HUD counselor search at hud.gov/findacounselor.
Enrolled Lenders will receive a notification when the course launches, including instructions for verifying borrower completion at file submission. The course's machine-verifiable completion certificate will become part of the standard Dream Home Fund loan submission package documented in the Lender Program Manual.
If you have questions about the timing or content of the course, please email info@dreamhomefund.com.
Borrowers, prospective borrowers, lenders, and homebuyer counselors are welcome to be added to our launch notification list.
